Technology Showcasing and Interface Meeting for Technology Commercialization through Public-Private Partnership
20 March 2024, New Delhi: ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal organised ‘Technology Showcasing and Interface Meeting for Technology Commercialization through Public Private Partnership’ today under the Institue Technology Management Unit.
Dr. SK Malhotra, Vice Chancellor, Maharana Pratap Horticultural University, Karnal and Dr. Gyanendra Singh, Director, ICAR-IIWBR, Karnal, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Dr. Malhotra emphasized the ICAR-IIWBR Seed Model and urged participants to improve wheat and barley seed production quality. He emphasized the importance of strengthening multi-state cooperatives for seed production and seed certification, highlighting the visibility of ICAR-IIWBR varieties and improved seed replacement rates due to strong public-private sector cooperation. Dr. Malhotra highlighted the challenges posed by climate change and transboundary diseases and the efforts of IIWBR Karnal to develop climate-resilient varieties. He encouraged seed growers to support ICAR-IIWBR varieties and future partnerships.
Dr. Singh acknowledged the support and efforts of the seed producers for the rapid popularization of the latest wheat varieties developed by the institute. He also stressed the need for entrepreneurship development in the seed sector.
The share of ICAR-IIWBR varieties in the national breeder seed indents is 45%, which underlines the demand for the institute’s varieties among the farmers.
A total of 50 private seed company representatives, 40 progressive farmers, and representatives from farmer-producer organizations from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan attended the meeting.
