PAU Live Programme: Punjab Farmer Shares his Experience of DSR Technology

12 May 2021, Punjab: During the PAU Live Programme today, a progressive farmer who has adopted direct seeded rice (DSR) technology shared his experience.

A farmer, namely, Sardar Tarssing upon using fertilizers in right amount, right time and by right method, Dr Gupta said this could be achieved easily through soil testing. Likewise, underground tubewell waters must be got tested from a soil and wateem Singh said the DSR is a water as well as labour saving technology. It saves irrigation water as well as offers groundwater recharge, he stated, while urging the fellow farmers to adopt the DSR technology.

Explaining the importance of soil and water testing, Dr Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Principal Soil Scientist, said soil testing is done for optimum use of fertilizers in different crops, reclamation of problematic soils and orchard plantation. Improper use of fertilizers leads to imbalanced nutrition as well as deterioration of environment, he observed. Stresr testing laboratory, he advised.

Dr Amandeep Singh Brar, Associate Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Moga, highlighted the activities of the KVK. He informed that farmers and farm women are being updated regularly through virtual training programmes.

Dr Inderpreet Kaur, Assistant Entomologist, and Mr Ravinder Bhalooria explained the farm operations to be carried out fortnightly.
