10 December 2023, New DelhiBanana Variety Rasthali (AAB) is also known as Silk, Mutheli, Malbhog, Martaman, Karkandu vazhai, Amruthpani and Rasabale. It is commercially grown in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Bihar, Assam and West Bengal.

The duration of the crop is 14 to 15 months. The average bunch weight is 15 kg with 7 to 8 hands and 80-90 fruits/bunch. Fruits are pale green throughout their development and turn yellow on ripening. The length of the fruit is 11 to 12 cm with 10.5 cm girth in the middle.

The fruit skin is very thin and fruits are very tasty with apple flavor and have a

TSS content of 22-24° B. The pulp is firm, mealy, and ivory-white in color. In certain cases, the fruits may have ‘hard lumps’ (unripe tissues). Fruits are highly suitable for the preparation of ‘Fig’, ‘Tam’ and ‘Juice’, and ‘Sweet Chutney’.
