Banana Variety Red Banana (AAA)

10 December 2023, New Delhi: Banana Variety Red Banana (AAA) is also known as Chandrabale, Lalkela, Chenkadali and Sevvazhai. Red banana is a choice variety. It is popular in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and to some extent in Western and central India.

The crop duration of this variety is 16-18 months. The bunch weight is 20-25 kg with 6-7 hands and 70-80 fruits. The length of the fruit is 16-18 cm and the girth is 15-16 cm. The fruit skin is thick and orange to red in color.

Fruits are sweet with a TSS content of 22-26° B and pulp is mealy in texture. Red banana fruits are known for their distinct pleasant aroma orange yellow in color that is rich in carotenoids. Red Bananas are popular for their medicinal value and the fruits are the costliest among all banana varieties. Fruits are highly suitable for the preparation of juice, jam, and sweets.
