ICAR-CIFA celebrates 37th Annual Day
01 April 2024, New Delhi: ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha celebrated its 37th Annual Day at its Kausalyaganga Campus, Bhubaneswar today. The country’s premier research institute on freshwater aquaculture began its journey as an institute on this day in the year 1987 under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Dr. Dhriti Banerjee, Director, Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Amaresh Kumar Nayak, Director, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, and Dr Debasis Dash, Director, Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar were also present, as the guests of honors.
Dr. Banerjee emphasised protecting Mother Nature for an agrarian country. She further added that around 300 new animal species are identified annually by the Zoological Survey of India. Dr. Banerjee informed that ZSI will be inking a MoU with ICAR-CIFA for collaborative research.
Dr. Nayak urged for greater collaboration in addressing the food and nutritional security of the poor people.
Dr. Dash, emphasised collaboration between ILS and ICAR-CIFA in the diverse field of life sciences.
Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, highlighted the Institute’s achievements, including breeding a catfish with standardized CRISPER-cas-9 gene editing technology, commercializing three technologies, developing an IoT-based smart automatic fish feeder, strengthening the Matsya Setu app in regional languages, and developing a web portal to raise public awareness about fish health benefits.
The Institute received ICAR certification for 12 technologies/products/methodologies, signed 13 MoUs with organizations for collaborative research, training, and technology transfer, and acquired 3 patents.
The dignitaries released nine publications of the Institute during the programme.
The representatives of various ICAR institutes registered their participation in the function.
