National Webinar on “Nutritional Security: Challenges & Opportunities on Gender Sensitive Agriculture” organized
25 March, 2021, Bhubaneswar: The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha organized a National Webinar on “Nutritional Security: Challenges & Opportunities on Gender Sensitive Agriculture” today.
The Webinar was aimed at sensitizing the participants about gender sensitive agriculture and creating awareness about the new interventions and technologies for promoting women entrepreneurship to enhance the income and family nutrition.
Dr. R.C. Agrawal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), ICAR marked his presence as the Chief Guest of the occasion.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Archana Mukherjee, Former Director, ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, highlighted the importance of nutritional security, product diversification and multi-disciplinary approach namely – GIS Sensor-based production management system, integrated farming system, policy reforms for balanced nutrition, consumption and value-chain management for bringing about the gender sensitive agriculture.
Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar briefed about the importance of balanced nutritional diet for women. He emphasized on the benefits of traditional foods and organic farming.
In her keynote speech on “Opportunities, status and policies to promote nutrition sensitive agriculture for gender empowerment”, Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Former Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar & ICAR-Emeritus Professor, CSKHPKV, Palampur outlined the present scenario of nutrition status of Indian women. She also underlined the strategies how to make linkages between nutrition and gender sensitive agriculture.
The Webinar registered a total participation by over 100 participants including scientists, academicians, scholars and students from the various ICAR Institutes and State Agricultural Universities.
