Despite less rain, area under paddy crosses 400 lakh hectares
14 September 2023, New Delhi: The Agriculture Ministry has released the latest data on sowing areas of Kharif crops till September 8, 2023. According to these figures, till Monday, paddy was sown in 403.41 lakh hectares. The area under pulse crops has decreased by 11.26 lakh hectares, due to which the prices of pulses may increase this time. Apart from this, the area under grain and sugarcane crops has increased. There has been a slight decline in the area of oilseed crops.
According to these figures, the estimated normal coverage area is 1095.27 lakh hectares, but so far Kharif crops have been sown in a total area of 1088.50 lakh hectares. In the last year 2022, sowing was done in a total area of 1088.02 lakh hectares.
Rice: About 403.41 lakh ha area coverage under rice has been reported compared to the corresponding period of last year (392.81 lakh ha). Thus 10.60 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Bihar (4.90 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (3.13 lakh ha), Jharkhand (2.46 lakh ha), West Bengal (1.82 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (1.48 lakh ha), Haryana (1.29 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (1.23 lakh ha), Punjab (0.32 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.10 lakh ha), Nagaland (0.04 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.02 lakh ha), Kerala (0.02 lakh ha), Mizoram (0.01 lakh ha) and Arunachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Karnataka (1.88 lakh ha), Odisha (1.33 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (1.17 lakh ha), Telangana (0.66 lakh ha), Assam (0.49 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.31 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.11 lakh ha), Tripura (0.07 lakh ha), Manipur (0.04 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.03 lakh ha) and J&K (0.01 lakh ha).
Pulses: About 119.91 lakh ha area coverage under pulses has been reported compared to the corresponding period of last year (131.17 lakh ha). Thus 11.26 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Rajasthan (1.31 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.13 lakh ha), J&K (0.10 lakh ha), Bihar (0.05 lakh ha), and West Bengal (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Madhya Pradesh (3.72 lakh ha), Karnataka (3.37 lakh ha), Maharashtra (2.64 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.63 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.50 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.49 lakh ha), Telangana (0.44 lakh ha), Odisha (0.44 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.35 lakh ha), Haryana (0.13 lakh ha), Tripura (0.05 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.05 lakh ha), Punjab (0.03 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.01 lakh ha) and Assam (0.01 lakh ha).
Shri Anna-cum- Coarse Cereals: About 182.21 lakh ha area coverage under coarse cereals has been reported compared to the corresponding period of last year (181.24 lakh ha). Thus 0.97 lakh hamore area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Madhya Pradesh (1.68 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.51 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.47 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.34 lakh ha), Odisha (0.34 lakh ha), Bihar (0.19 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.11 lakh ha), Himachal Pradesh (0.08 lakh ha), Assam (0.07 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.02 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.02 lakh ha) and Punjab (0.02 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Tamil Nadu (0.75 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.41 lakh ha), Haryana (0.40 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.36 lakh ha), Telangana (0.34 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.17 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.16 lakh ha) and J&K (0.05 lakh ha).
Oilseeds: About 191.49 lakh ha area coverage under oilseeds has been reported compared to the corresponding period of last year (193.30 lakh ha). Thus 1.80 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Maharashtra (1.62 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.81 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.52 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.23 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.17 lakh ha), Odisha (0.05 lakh ha), Telangana (0.04 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.01 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (0.01 lakh ha), Mizoram (0.01 lakh ha) and Jammu & Kashmir (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Andhra Pradesh (2.61 lakh ha), Karnataka (2.06 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.38 lakh ha), Bihar (0.13 lakh ha), Assam (0.06 lakh ha), Tripura (0.02 lakh ha), Punjab (0.01 lakh ha), Haryana (0.01 lakh ha) and Arunachal Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha).
Sugarcane: About 59.91 lakh ha area coverage under sugarcane has been reported compared to the corresponding period of last year (55.65 lakh ha). Thus 4.26 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Uttar Pradesh (3.91 lakh ha), Maharashtra (0.91 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.29 lakh ha), Punjab (0.16 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.08 lakh ha), Odisha (0.01 lakh ha) and Assam (0.01 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Gujarat (0.40 lakh ha), Bihar (0.11 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.10 lakh ha), Telangana (0.08 lakh ha), Haryana (0.05 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.04 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.02 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.01 lakh) and Chhattisgarh (0.01 lakh ha).
Jute & Mesta: About 6.57 lakh ha area coverage under Jute & Mesta has been reported compared to the corresponding period of last year (6.97 lakh ha). Thus 0.40 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. Less area is reported from the States of Bihar (0.22 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.16 lakh ha) and Assam (0.03 lakh ha).
Cotton: About 125.00 lakh ha area coverage under cotton has been reported compared to the corresponding period of last year (126.87 lakh ha). Thus 1.88 lakh ha less area has been covered compared to last year. Higher area is reported from the States of Gujarat (1.33 lakh ha), Rajasthan (1.08 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.25 lakh ha), Odisha (0.19 lakh ha) and Haryana (0.16 lakh ha). Less area is reported from the States of Telangana (1.84 lakh ha), Karnataka (1.52 lakh ha), Punjab (0.80 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.43 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.20 lakh ha) and Maharashtra (0.01 lakh ha).
