Kharif sowing in the country inches to 611 lakh hectare till now

19 July 2021, New Delhi: There has been a decrease in Kharif sowing this year in the country, due to unfavorable weather conditions. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, till July 16, 611.89 lakh hectares have been sown where as so far last year sowing was done in 691.93 lakh hectare. So far, 80 lakh hectares less area has been sown as compared to last year.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, so far paddy has been sown in about 161.97 lakh hectares as against 171.44 lakh hectares in the same period last year.

So far, pulses sowing have been done in 70.64 lakh hectares as against 80.36 lakh hectares in the same period last year. Coarse cereals were sown in about 91.34 lakh hectares as against 115.07 lakh hectares in the corresponding period last year.

The area coverage for oilseeds is about 128.91 lakh hectare as against 149.35 lakh hectare in the corresponding period last year. There is no specific increase in sugarcane. About 53.70 lakh hectare was planted in an area as against 52.82 lakh hectare in the corresponding period last year. So far, cotton has been sown in about 98.38 lakh hectares as against 113.01 hectares in the corresponding period last year.
