Poshan maah: KVK Ropar stresses importance of nutrition

19 September 2021, Punjab: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized National Campaign on ‘Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation’ in collaboration with IIFCO on September 17, 2021. The programme was held under the guidance of Directorate of Extension Education, PAU and ICAR-ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana. Around 80 farmers, farm women and adolescent girls participated in this programme.

Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Ropar stressed the importance of nutrition and healthy lifestyle. Dr. Makkar shared that, launched in 2018, Poshan Maah is a government’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent girls and women. On this occasion, Dr. Makkar addressed the issues of malnutrition, anemia and balanced diet for healthy Nation. He also shared the importance of nutri-cereals for holistic nutrition and appealed all the participants and representatives from allied departments for spreading the awareness in a dedicated mission-mode.

Dr. Sudhir Singh Katyar, Chief Manager (Agriculture Service), IFFCO and the Chief guest of the programme shared the importance of balanced use of fertilizers in growing healthy crops. He also emphasized the importance of soil test based use of fertilizers for better economics and output.

Dr. Princy Assistant Professor (Home Science) discussed the importance of balanced consumption of grains, pulses, vegetables, fruits, milk and nuts, etc. She informed that millets are gluten free and suits well to people with gluten intolerance.

Ms. Ankurdeep Preety Assistant Professor (Agroforestry) shared the importance of forest plantations in sustainable agricultural and rural livelihood. She also encouraged the participants to grow medicinal plants and trees with medicine values.

The programme ended with the distribution of 100 vegetable kits and 200 fruit plants (Guava and mango) among the participants and the plantation drive at KVK.
