KVK ROPAR generates awareness on crop residue management

19 October 2021, Punjab: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized one day awareness camp for mobilization of school students under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR-ATARI Zone 1, Ludhiana. The programme was conducted at Government High School village Phool Khurd (Ropar) on October, 19, 2021 in which around 100 students participated.

Dr. G.S. Makkar highlighted the harmful effects of burning of Crop Residue and discussed the importance of residue management in relation with environment conservation. Dr. Makkar discussed in detail about the recommended paddy residue management technologies and also laid stress on the management of paddy residue through the use of farm machinery like MB Plough, rotavator, mulcher, baler etc. Dr. Makkar informed that management of paddy residue is of utmost importance at this moment and stressed upon the proactive role to be played by youth in spreading this message.

Dr. Princy Assistant Professor (Home Science) organized various student competitions under categories of essay writing, slogan writing and poster for sensitizing the students about the harmful effects of paddy residue to the environment and human health.

Mr. Dinesh Kumar (Principal) motivated the students for their participation and thanked KVK faculty for creating awareness on crop residue management.

The programme ended with distribution of seasonal vegetable kits and various fruit plants to the school authorities and an encouragement note to raise nutrition garden at their school premises.
