The Country’s First Electric Tractor

19 October 2021, Chandigarh: Haryana Governor-Chancellor, Sh. Bandaru Dattatraya has congratulated the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar, for developing the country’s first electric tractor. “It shows the power of innovation and research which CCSHAU possesses in abundance,” said Sh Dattatraya. The electric tractor has been developed by the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAE&T), CCSHAU.

“The introduction of electric-tractor will make farming much more cost effective. Farmers will save a lot of money, which will be a big boost to their sustainable prosperity,” he said, urging the engineers and technical experts of COAE&T to take the electric-tractor as a product to the global level, which will make the dream of ‘Local to Global’ a reality.

Sh. Dattatraya said the development of an electric tractor will also encourage the general people to shift towards e-vehicles, which will not only reduce pollution and save the environment from further degradation but will also create more job opportunities locally.

Sh Dattatraya said that the Central government under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi has launched the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (FAME) scheme to promote the manufacture of electric vehicles for which Rs 10,000 crore is being spent during the current financial year. The Central Government has also announced plans to extend the second phase of the FAME scheme till 2021, a historic step to promote electric vehicles.

Sh. Dattatraya has extended congratulations to all faculty members of the university including Vice-Chancellor, Prof B.R. Kamboj for their hard work in making a path breaking headway by developing India’s first e-tractor, the most important among all agriculture implements.

According to Prof. Kamboj, on a single charge, the electric tractor can cover a distance of 80-km. Prof. Kamboj said this research work will prove to be a milestone in the development of the agriculture sector. He has also called upon all university scientists and engineers to develop technologies and launch their products in the world market. It will create employment opportunities for youth and the university will also get recognized globally.
