Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar Organizes Field Day on Sesamum Cultivation

18 October 2021, Punjab: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and ICAR ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana organized a field day on Sesamum in village Sakhpur (Nurpurbedi) district Ropar on October 12, 2021 in which around 70 farmers and farm women participated.

Dr. G.S. Makkar, Deputy Director (Trg.), KVK Ropar informed that the event was organized to showcase the successful performance of Sesamum at the farmer field and to further encourage cultivation of oilseeds on larger area. He added that this is a coordinated effort to promote area under oilseeds with the objective to increase crop diversity.

Dr. Pawan Kumar, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) discussed regarding the major insect-pest and disease of sesamum crop. He also elaborated on insect-pest and disease management in rabi crops alongwith the importance of seed treatment in wheat.

Dr. Aparna, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) shed light on the management of dairy animals. She also discussed preparation of mineral mixture and uromin lick for the milch animals at home.

The farmers and the experts had a fruitful discussion on various doubts regarding cultivation of Til and upcoming rabi crops. The programme was ended to field visit of sesamum crop.
