NABL accredited Honey Testing Laboratory inaugurated at Anand
24 July 2020, New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar today inaugurated the ‘World Class State of Art Honey Testing Laboratory’ at Anand. National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) with support of National Bee Board (NBB) have established the lab.

Addressing the video conference Mr. Tomar said that the Bee-keeping enterprise will play an important role in doubling farmers income. The Ministry has further taken up several activities to promote bee keeping under ‘Mission on Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)‘ which is being implemented through National Bee Board and the States.

The Minister expressed the need for training on scientific bee-keeping; production of high value honey and honey-bee products. Honey production with good standards is a high value product. Therefore, there is need for creating awareness among farmers, land less labourers about the scope & potential of bee-keeping enterprise as an additional source of income.
He further informed that the Dept of Agriculture has approved the National Bee Keeping & Honey Mission for a period of 2 years.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Giriraj Singh, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said that adulteration is a major problem in honey production.
Honey is adulterated by High fructose corn syrup, Rice, tapioca, sugarcane and beet syrup.
These are similar to hony in physico-chemical properties. He further stated that the establishment of this Honey Testing Laboratory will help for quality production of honey and its export to other countries.
Based on the parameters notified by FSSAI; NDDB has set-up this lab with all the facilities and developed the test methods/protocols. Moreover, National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has accredited the lab. FSSAI has now notified new standards of Honey, Bee Wax and Royal Jelly.
