Meeting on Establishing National Animal Disease Centre at ICAR-NIVEDI, Bengaluru

06 April 2024, New Delhi: ICAR-National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru, organised a key meeting chaired by Smt. Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India.

Smt. Upadhyaya emphasised the institute’s advancements in livestock disease epidemiology and its proactive approach to disease forecasting and warning. She also advocated for a collaborative national project to tackle Antimicrobial Resistance and Antimicrobial Usage.

Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Commissioner, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India, acknowledged the institute’s efforts in managing national animal disease control programs, specifically targeting diseases like Brucellosis, PPR, and CSF.

Smt. Varsha Joshi, Additional Secretary (CDD/IT), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India, emphasized the importance of using AI and machine learning in disease management.

Smt. Sarita Chauhan, Joint Secretary (LH), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India, highlighted the need to integrate zoonotic disease studies and public awareness into all projects.

Shri. G.N Singh, Joint Secretary (Admin/Trade/GC/IC), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India urged for increased exports of livestock products.

Dr. Bhushan Tyagi, Joint Commissioner (RGM), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India, and other officials were present during the meeting.

Dr. B.R. Gulati, Director, ICAR-NIVEDI, highlighted the institute’s profile and presented the plans for establishing the National Animal Disease Information & Control Centre as part of the National Digital Livestock Mission.
