“Interface Meet on AnGR of Punjab: A Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR of India” organized
09 February 2022, New Delhi: The ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, Haryana organized its “8th State Interface Meet for Punjab” under the Mission towards Zero Non-Descript Animal Genetic Resources today.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Punjab appreciated the ICAR’s efforts for initiating the Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR in the country. He also urged for registering the Germplasm which have been adapted and improved within the country.
Dr. V.K. Saxena, ADG (AP&B), ICAR highlighted the need for using the molecular tools for developing the breed signatures.
Dr. H.S. Kahlon, Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Punjab emphasized on the specific populations in Punjab for studying in detail.
Dr. T.K. Datta, Director ICAR-Central Institute for Research Buffalo, underlined the need for developing the well-defined standards of some of the native breeds like Nili-Ravi Buffalo.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. B.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, briefed about the Bureau’s activities and the strategies for achieving the Mission.
The Meet organized on the theme – “Characterization and Documentation of Animal Genetic Resources of Punjab” registered participation by 49 participants from ICAR; Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Science University, Ludhiana, Punjab; Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Punjab and NGOs, etc.
