Bilateral Meeting with H.E. Ahmed Badani, Minister for Fishing and Fisheries Production of Algeria
08 March 2024, Algiers: During his official visit to Algeria, the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met in Algiers with H.E. Ahmed Badani, Minister for Fishing and Fisheries Production of Algeria.
The Minister provided an overview of the Ministery’s role in promoting fisheries and aquaculture production, making use of the national resources, and seeking to enhance food security and nutrition. He appreciated the ongoing support from FAO to the fisheries and aquaculture sector in Algeria, highlighting the opportunities for south-south and triangular cooperation in the sector through the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation, Solidarity and Development.
The Director-General appreciated the good collaboration with Algeria, building on the country’s comparative advantages in the fisheries sectors, including in research and development and aquaculture cooperatives. He invited Algeria to use its technical and human resources to support fisheries and aquaculture development in other countries as well, using appropriate technology and innovation.
After the meeting, the Director-General conducted a visit on board the Research Vessel Belkacem, during which he was briefed on the capabilities of the vessel as an important technological platform for marine sciences.
