Vice Minister Ma Youxiang Meets with Solomon Islands’ Fisheries Minister Ghiro
21 May 2023, China: Vice Minister Ma Youxiang met with Nestor Ghiro, Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources of Solomon Islands, in Beijing on May 16, 2023.
Vice Minister Ma noted that China and Solomon Islands have achieved fruitful results in bilateral fishery exchanges and cooperation since the normalization of diplomatic relations. Solomon Islands is rich in fishery resources, while China has advantages in fishery technology and equipment as well as the market, among others. Therefore, the two countries enjoy a sound foundation and complementarities for cooperation. Vice Minister Ma suggested that the two countries should conduct practical cooperation in the fishery on the basis of friendly consultation and mutual benefit to improve people’s well-being and promote sustainable economic and social development.
Minister Ghiro highly affirmed bilateral fishery cooperation and agreed with Vice Minister Ma. He expressed that Solomon Islands is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as marine fishing, aquaculture, fishery infrastructure, and talent training to propel bilateral relations in the fishing industry.
