Vietnam: Can Tho durian officially exported to China
21 March 2023, Vietnam: On March 17, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho city held a ceremony to export the first official shipment of durian to China under the Protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Department of Chinese customs.
18.5 tons of durian exported for the first time was grown at Truong Phat Durian Cooperative, Truong Lac ward, O Mon district, Can Tho city. The first shipment was exported by Ngoc Minh Lang Son Import-Export Co., Ltd.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho city, durian is one of the products with high economic value, the annual profit reaches hundreds of millions of dong per ha.
The cultivation area of durian trees in Can Tho increased from 537 ha in 2015 to nearly 3,000 ha in 2023, mainly in 2 districts of Phong Dien, Thoi Lai and O Mon. Can Tho city currently has 42 durian growing areas with a scale of 850 ha, of which 8 growing areas have been granted codes.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho city has also warned that people do not expand the area of durian cultivation massively, avoiding the situation of oversupply. Cooperatives, cooperative groups associated with exporting enterprises register planting area codes to facilitate consumption.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People’s Committee said: “The official durian export to China today is the result of efforts in negotiations for a long time by the specialized agencies of Vietnam and China, showing the persistent companion of durian growers and durian exporters of Vietnam”.
