25 June 2023, New Delhi: It is a cross of the Kadakanath breed of Indian native chicken with CARl Red. Birds have plumage of various colors dominated by black. The skin, beak, shank, toes, and soles are a dark gray color. The peculiarity of this bird is that most of the internal organs show the characteristic black pigmentation. A varying degree of blackish coloration is also found in skeletal muscles, tendons, nerves, meninges, brain, and bone marrow. The black color of muscles and tissues is due to the deposition of melanin pigment which causes an increase in protein and a decrease in fat and muscle fiber length. This variety is ideally suited for rearing in tribal areas due to the preference for dark meat by the tribal population.
