How to control sucking pest in cotton (61-90 days)

10 July 2023, New Delhi: Central Institute for Cotton Research- Sirsa, Haryana has issued an advisory to the farmers to get higher yields of cotton crops. In this advisory, cotton farmers have been told by the institute to save the crop from the attack of sap-sucking insects and to control these insects for 61-90 days.

Control of sucking pests in cotton (61-90 days) crop

Level of economic loss of sucking pests- (a.) Whitefly- 18-24 adults/3 leaves, (b.) Thrips-30-40 nymphs and adults/3 leaves, (c) Green tsetse-6 nymphs/3 leaves. Use recommended insecticides above 3 leaves.

Insecticide for whitefly adults:- Diphenthiuron 50 W.P. (500 gm) or Aphidopyropene 50g/L (1000 ml) or Dinotefuran 20 s g (150 gm) or Falonicamed 50 WG(200 gm) or Quallothianidin 50 WG(50 gm)/ha |

Effective insecticide for whitefly nymphs/kids:- Spray Pyriproxyfen 10 EC (1250 ml) or Buprofezin 25 SC (1000 ml) or Spiromesifen 22.9 SC (500 ml) per hectare.

Effective spray for mixed infestation of sucking pests:- Diphenthiuron 50 WP (500 gm) or Spintoram 11.7 SC (425 ml) or Profenofos 50 EC (1250 ml) after 60 days for mixed infestation of white fly and thrips or both. Spray at the rate of L)/hectare. In case of mixed infestation of white fly and aphids or both, use Flonicamid 50 WG (200 g) or Dinotefuran 20 SG (150 g)/ha.
