Advisory for Control of Caterpillars on Mango

01 April 2024, New Delhi: Several types of caterpillars damage new flushes and small fruits during the months of April to June. Incidence of mango fruit borer also occurs during April-May, which approximately coincides with the ‘marble stage’ of fruit development. The damage is done by the larvae feeding on fruits by weaving webs connecting adjacent fruits.

The affected fruits exude resin and black or brown rough sticky patches can be seen on the infested area. Farmers are advised to collect and destroy the infested fruits from the tree. If their presence is noticed in mango orchards spray with Dimethoate 30 % EC @ 2.0 ml/litre of water is recommended for its management.
