Farmers’ protest 2024: Govt proposes to buy Pulses, Maize and Cotton at MSP

20 February 2024, New Delhi: The farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march has been postponed till February 21 while representatives deliberate over a government proposal. Following the government’s fourth meeting with farmer representatives on February 18, the leaders resolved to assess the government’s most recent proposal by consulting with subject matter experts. The discussions on February 8, 12, and 15 ended in a deadlock.

On February 18, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Arjun Munda, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai met with the farmers. Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, attended the meeting as well. The government has proposed to buy pulses, maize, and cotton from the farmers of Punjab on MSO for the next 5 years. The farmer leaders have asked for time till the 21st for an internal discussion between stakeholders.
