KVK, moga organized vocational training on “goat farming: a subsidiary occupation” from 21.08.2023-25.08.2023

26 August 2023, Punjab: KVK, Moga successfully conducted a five days vocational training programme on “Goat Farming: a subsidiary occupation ” from 21.08.2023-25.08.2023 under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The training programme was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK, Moga in which 45 candidates including both farm men/ farm women actively took participation from the districts of Moga, Faridkot and Ferozpur.

At first day of the training, Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar, Associate Director (Trg.), KVK, Moga extended warm welcome to the participants and made them aware regarding working of KVK system. He shared information regarding mandates of KVK and encouraged all the participants to adopt this subsidiary occupation for the betterment of their livelihood and extra source of income generation.

Dr. Prabhjot Kaur Sidhu, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) acted as course coordinator. She also handled expert lectures regarding breed identification, management of sheds according to different age groups of goats, feeding according to different category of age groups and disease management of goats to run a successful scientific goat farm both at local or commercial level.

Dr. G.S. Sodhi, Additional Director Extension, PAU and Dr. P.S. Pannu, Additional Director Research, PAU, Ludhiana also interacted with the farmers and encouraged them to adopt subsidiary occupation for higher income. They also advised them to make value added products of goat meat along with expert advice from the KVK scientist for time-to-time scientific inputs.

Mrs. Sarita Jaiswal, Lead District Manager, Moga shared useful information regarding procedure of bank loans and insurance policy available for the farmers in required field. Mr. Harjit Singh and Mr. Shivam Bhalla, DIC, Moga imparted knowledge regarding different schemes like PFGP and PFMC and subsidies available for goat farmers.

During closing ceremony, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur Sidhu, AP (Ani. Sci.) thanked all the participants and motivated them to take up this new venture at new heights in future.
