20 March 2024, Sweden: For almost 30 years, the Association of Agronomists has appointed the Agronomist of the Year. The award goes to a person who has made extra contributions to Swedish agriculture and has also been a good ambassador for the agronomist profession. This is part of the work to strengthen and highlight the role of agronomists and spread knowledge about their unique skills.

Patrik Myrelid, Head of Strategy at Lantmännen, has been named Agronomist of the Year.

“It is an honour to receive this award, especially when it comes to something as socially important as making Swedish agriculture visible and working for it. The knowledge of an agronomist has always been important, but as sustainability, food security and biodiversity are increasingly discussed, it is more important and relevant than ever. It’s a role in society that I’m proud to belong to and represent,” says Patrik Myrelid at Lantmännen.

The jury’s motivation is as follows.

“Patrik is extremely appreciated for his skills and is often engaged as a speaker in various events, such as Agricultural Day in the Swedish Parliament. He is frequently invited to various round table discussions and “high-beast meetings” throughout the industry and with many specializations. He is a strong voice for Swedish agriculture, which ensures that food takes place in several policy areas and preaches around the country about the importance of the well-being and growth of the Swedish agricultural sector. Patrik is also a member of KSLA’s agricultural department, where he often initiates and moderates interesting seminars with exciting speakers and hot topics that bring together the actors in the entire chain for lively discussions.”

The explanatory memorandum concluded is as follows.

“He is a member of the government’s Expert Council for Climate Change Adaptation, where he in a fantastic way highlights the opportunities, challenges and conditions of primary production. Patrik will also never forget his SLU and giving back to the students. Whether it’s a career evening arranged by Hasse, a business day or as a ceremonial speaker during the graduation ball. Patrik is a fantastic and well-liked colleague and likes to lift others before himself. In addition, he is a committed family man, part-time farmer and very humble, very funny and an extremely kind person. He is an excellent role model for aspiring agronomists and for the profession as a whole!”

The award was presented during Ultuna Student Year’s Comrades’ Dinner in Ultuna on March 16.
