China, Uzbekistan hold 1st Meeting of Subcommittee on Poverty Reduction Cooperation
04 January 2024, China: Vice Minister Ma Youxiang and Turdiboyeva Rano Eshovna, Deputy Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan, attended the first meeting of the Subcommittee on Poverty Reduction Cooperation under the framework of China–Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee held on Dec. 29, 2023 and delivered remarks.
Vice Minister Ma pointed out that with the strong support of the presidents of both countries, China and Uzbekistan have initiated a new chapter of poverty reduction cooperation. The two sides have enhanced people-to-people exchanges at various levels and carried out pragmatic and extensive cooperation in capacity building. Going forward, the two countries should leverage the roles of the subcommittee and the working group on poverty reduction cooperation, boost experience-sharing on poverty reduction, map out cooperation projects, and promote pragmatic actions on poverty reduction. China stands ready to support Uzbekistan poverty reduction officials in conducting field trips in China and exploring pilot projects on poverty reduction cooperation in Uzbekistan.
Deputy Minister Eshovna spoke highly of the bilateral cooperation and expressed her appreciation for China’s support and assistance in poverty reduction. She said Uzbekistan hopes to further China–Uzbekistan partnership in poverty reduction.
The meeting accepted the list of subcommittee members. Besides sharing experiences and measures in poverty reduction, participants also discussed a new Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation on poverty reduction and cooperation priorities in 2024.
