22 February 2022, China: Vice Minister Ma Youxiang held talks with Zhang Ming, newly appointed Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), on Feb. 16, 2022. The two sides exchanged views on furthering agricultural cooperation among SCO countries.

Vice Minister Ma Youxiang stated agriculture is an important part of cooperation among SCO member states. In recent years, fruitful results have been achieved in trade, investment, and S&T exchange between China and other SCO member states. Going forward, all parties should: 1) earnestly implement the consensus reached in recent talks among heads of state of SCO member states; 2) closely communicate and collaborate with each other within SCO’s cooperative framework; 3) facilitate exchanges and cooperation in areas such as agricultural trade, investment, S&T, and culture; 4) strengthen coordination of positions on major issues concerning global food and agriculture; and 5) pragmatically leverage the role of the SCO Demonstration Base for Agricultural Technology Exchange and Training.

SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming said agricultural cooperation among SCO countries fully conforms to the “Shanghai Spirit,” and the SCO is willing to work with China and other member states to take agricultural cooperation to a new height.
