Vice Minister Ma Youxiang Meets with Israeli Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development

07 July 2023, China: Vice Minister Ma Youxiang met with Avi Dichter, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel, in Rome, Italy, on July 3, 2023. They exchanged views on strengthening agricultural cooperation between China and Israel.      

Vice Minister Ma Youxiang noted that agriculture has always been a key area of China-Israel cooperation. The two countries have conducted various kinds of cooperation in agriculture, including joint development of demonstration farms, personnel exchanges and training, and economic and trade cooperation. Such cooperation has played a positive role in deepening China-Israel relations.  

Under the mechanism of the China-Israel Committee on Agricultural Innovation and Cooperation, China hopes to work with Israel on supporting research institutes and market entities of both countries in research and extension of precision agriculture, post-harvest loss reduction, and smart agricultural equipment, among other things. He also suggested that the two countries could conduct triangular cooperation in areas such as efficient water-saving irrigation and selection and breeding of drought-tolerant and stress-tolerant varieties, jointly contributing to agricultural development and food security in developing countries.  

Minister Dichter spoke highly of the achievements of China-Israel agricultural cooperation and agreed with Vice Minister Ma. He said Israel hopes to work with China to take bilateral cooperation to a new height.  

Guang Defu, Permanent Representative of China to FAO, attended the meeting.
