Syngenta India launches new insecticides Incipio and Simodis for paddy, cotton, and vegetable farmers in India
19 July 2023, New Delhi: As paddy cultivation picks up momentum with the onset of monsoon in the country, Syngenta India unveiled its new age plant protection solutions – Incipio and Simodis for paddy, cotton, and vegetable farmers across India. These products are based on the innovative PLINAZOLIN® technology and offer effective defense against various pests, ensuring improved yields and crop quality. These are developed to efficiently meet the challenges arising from climate change and pest resistance, which are responsible for major crop losses every year.
Incipio is an insecticide that effectively combats new species of stem borers and leaf folders that attack paddy crops, while Simodis offers a reliable solution to paddy, cotton, and vegetables against sucking and lepidopteran insects like butterflies and moths and is especially efficient on vegetables such as hot pepper, brinjal, cotton, ground nut, soybean, and red gram.
Based on PLINAZOLIN® technology, a new active ingredient that protects plant health with outstanding performance on a wide range of harmful pests that affect key crops, Incipio and Simodis have a very good tank mix profile and can be mixed with other fungicides if needed. PLINAZOLIN technology, provides Excellent control of multiple pests, with long-lasting effects with a reduced number of sprays, a game changer for growers, offering an easier, powerful, and reliable solution to protect the yield and quality.
Pests can lead to yield losses ranging from 30 to 40 percent if not controlled effectively at the right time. The high infestation rate of these pests and short duration control with existing solutions are leading to an increased number of applications and the overall cost. A report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has indicated that global warming and rising temperatures could cause an increase in the population of insects around the world resulting in a loss of grains by 10-25%. As per the IRRI, farmers lose an estimated average of 37 percent of their rice crop to pests and diseases every year. “Incipio and Simodis are our latest solutions to help solve many pest problems of our farmers. We are happy to bring an alternative solution which will provide effective, longer duration control from resistant pests”, said Susheel Kumar, Country Head and Managing Director, Syngenta India.
Dr KC Ravi, Chief Sustainability Officer, Syngenta India said, “Understanding the dire need for comprehensive solutions, Syngenta India has introduced Incipio and Simodis, specifically formulated to address the unique challenges faced by paddy and vegetable growers in the country and make the country largest producer and exporter for many other vegetables.”
The new products provide broad spectrum, effective, and long-lasting control against multiple pests, which, in turn, helps reduce the number of applications. “With the launch of our new products, we aim to provide Indian farmers with reliable and effective plant protection solutions, enabling them to boost yields, improve crop quality, save on labor costs, and secure their livelihoods”, added Susheel.
As India is the 2nd largest producer of eggplant providing a key source of income for small vegetable farmers, most of its Brinjal are exported to Singapore, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Maldives. The shoot borer & fruit borer is tough to control pests in eggplant (50-70% yield loss) besides mites, jassids, and thrips with growers having to spray more than 20 applications per season to control those pests with tank-mix different products with short spray interval to get acceptable control.

Bikramjit Singh, Head of Marketing Syngenta India, said that Incipio takes the lead in combating stem borers and leaf folders, two common pests that wreak havoc on rice fields. By delivering efficient control, it ensures that crops grow strong and healthy, free from the destructive effects of these pests.

According to Kumar, Incipio, and Simodis also offer additional benefits for farmers as their sunlight stability and rain-resistant properties allow for longer spray intervals and reduced application frequency. This promotes resource efficiency, saving valuable time and reducing environmental impact, he said.
Elaborating on the sustainable elements of the innovative PLINAZOLIN® technology, Dr. Ravi said that “This technology would help farmers to build resilience in the face of increasing challenges to feed the growing world population sustainably.” The unique mode of action of this technology not only provides outstanding control on a wide range of pests, including where older products can no longer provide effective control but the low dose requirements reduce chemical load on farmland and improve sustainable food production, he added.
