Vice Minister Ma Youxiang delivers speech at 8th Sino-German Agricultural Week

28 November 2022, China: The Eighth Sino-German Agricultural Week and the High-level Forum on Sino-German Cooperation on Food Security opened in a hybrid modality on Nov. 22, 2022. Vice Minister Ma Youxiang delivered a video speech. 

Vice Minister Ma pointed out that agricultural cooperation is an integral part of Sino-German cooperation and Chinese and German leaders attach great importance to it. Fruitful results have been achieved in agricultural cooperation, mechanisms for dialogue are working efficiently, agricultural trade is growing rapidly, and S&T cooperation is steadily advancing. Sino-German Agricultural Week is a major innovation in agricultural cooperation between China and Germany and is recognized and commended by all parties. It has already become a grand gathering for agricultural community of both countries.

Vice Minister Ma said China and Germany, while facing a complex global food and agriculture situation, should enhance cooperation in agriculture and food security, identify key areas of medium- and long-term agricultural cooperation, tap the potential for economic and trade cooperation in agriculture, upgrade cooperation in food security, and strengthen development of the Sino-German Agricultural Centre.  

Ophelia Nick, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany, and Patricia Flor, German Ambassador to China, addressed the forum via video link. 

Focusing on food security, this iteration of agricultural week features a high-level forum on cooperation in food security and a series of seminars on topics such as smart agriculture, seed industry development, and food loss and waste reduction.
