26 March 2021, USA: The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that Julie Borlaug, President of the Borlaug Foundation and Vice President of External Relations for Inari, has joined the Council of Advisors. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and the founder of the World Food Prize.

“On behalf of Council Chair, Paul Schickler, and my staff at the Foundation, we are honored to welcome Ms. Julie Borlaug to the Council,” said Barbara Stinson, President of the World Food Prize Foundation. “Ms. Borlaug brings a unique background and point of view to this distinguished group. Her decades of experience as a leader in the field of global agriculture, uplifting voices from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, will be an essential asset as we continue to expand the Foundation’s activities.”

On the Council, Ms. Borlaug will review, advise and guide the World Food Prize Foundation leadership on policies, and the design and implementation of Foundation programs. Other responsibilities of Ms. Borlaug will include participating in appointing members of the World Food Prize Laureate Selection Committee and endorsing the Selection Committee’s new Laureate each year.

“I am honored to continue my grandfather’s legacy with the World Food Prize Foundation as a member of the Council of Advisors,” said Ms. Borlaug. “I look forward to working with Barbara and her entire team.”

Ms. Borlaug works to champion Dr. Borlaug’s legacy and lend a voice to his desire to see more successful collaborative partnerships across sectors and scientific disciplines to bring innovation to end hunger. Ms. Borlaug specializes in agricultural communications by producing creative, bold messaging in the agriculture sector. By opening a different dialogue and using new avenues to partner with collaborators, farmers and consumers, she engages with more people to understand and support the need for agriculture technologies.

Prior to joining Inari, Ms. Borlaug served as associate director of external affairs at the Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture and Strategic Initiatives for Corporate Relations at Texas A&M AgriLife Research.
