Webinar as part of National Campaign on Diversification in Aquaculture organized
15 March 2022, New Delhi: The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi, Kerala along with 7 ICAR Fisheries Research Institutes pan India jointly organized a Webinar today.
The Chief Guest of the occasion, Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR underlined the importance of the aquaculture diversification to achieve the expectations of the country in terms of production and productivity.
Dr. Krishna R. Salin, Chair, Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Programme, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand delivered the Lecture on “Aquaculture System Diversification: Successful Examples from Asia”. Dr. Salon underlined the diversity in the Asia’s Aquaculture System, highlighting the prominent examples, concerns & restrictions and the level of industrialisation in Aquaculture.
In his Talk on “Towards industrial microalgae production for food and feed application”, Prof. (Dr.) Rene H. Wijffels, Professor, Department of Agrotechnology and Food Sciences, Wageningen University, Netherlands outlined the relevance of microalgae, its industrial productions, the development of stand-alone technologies, bio-prospecting in the three different temperature zones, circular technology and microalgae biotechnology.
Dr. Jorge Dias, Co-founder and C.E.O., Sparos LDA, Portugal deliberated on “Unlocking the Potential of Microalgae in Aquafeeds”. The use of a variety of microalgae in the Aqua-feeds like Nannochloropsis, Schizochytrium and Phaeodactylum tricornutum as a novel n-3 HUFA source, the replacement of fish meals and fish oils, the importance of traditional feeds during the sensitive periods of the production cycle and microbiome modulation were stated by Dr. Dias.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, Director, ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi underlined the overview of the status of global and Indian Fisheries Production.
The Webinar was organized as a part of the “National Campaign on Diversification in Aquaculture”.
More than 1,450 participants including Scientists, Research Fellows, Fish Farmers and Entrepreneurs attended the programmes organized at the 7 ICAR Fisheries Institutes and its Centres and selected Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
