ICAR-IARI celebrates its 117th Foundation Day

02 April 2022, New Delhi: The ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi celebrated its 117th Foundation Day here today.

Delivering the Foundation Day Lecture, the Chief Guest, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) urged the Institute to play a leading role in addressing the research and development in all the aspects of sustainable food production systems. Dr. Mohapatra stated that the Institute can work towards the nature positive agriculture and horticulture production system to reduce the chemical footprints in the food system.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR emphasized on making the Institute to stand alongside the top global Universities.

Padma Bhushan, Professor R.B. Singh presided over the event.

Dr. H.S. Gupta, Former Director General, BISA & Former Director, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi stressed on the need for strengthening the horticulture to enhance the farmers’ income.

Dr. K.V. Prabhu, Chairman, PPVFRA; Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR; Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR; Dr. D.K. Yadava, ADG (Seeds), ICAR and Dr. S.K. Malhotra, Director, ICAR-Directorate of Knowledge Management in Agriculture, New Delhi along with the other Senior Officials of ICAR Institutes also virtually participated in the event.

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. A.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi applauded the Institute’s Former Directors’ efforts in creating the various infrastructural and scientific facilities during their tenures. The Institute’s various achievements during the last Year including the Sardar Petal Outstanding ICAR Institute Award; and the release of 35 New Varieties of the different Crops including 2 Herbicide-resistant Basmati Rice varieties, etc., were also underlined by Dr. Singh.

Padma Shri, Shri Sethpal Singh, a Farmer also shared his experiences and journey of bringing the crop diversification in agriculture for the sustainable income of the smallholder farmers.

Dr. Rashmi Aggarwal, Dean & Joint Director (Education), ICAR-IARI, New Delhi proposed the vote of thanks.
