11 August 2023, US: A machete in one hand, cell phone in the other, Erin Doughtie can be found carefully navigating through watermelon fields all season long. That season, by the way, lasts all year thanks to South and Central America Production. She was recently named one of Seed World’s Top 10 Next Generation Leaders. This award honors those who showcase stellar leadership in the seed industry, and who are poised to make real impact throughout their career.

A native of Texas and a generation removed from the farm, Doughtie currently serves as Syngenta Vegetable Seeds’ Regional Portfolio Manager for the Americas for watermelon.  “It’s been a phenomenal opportunity for me to learn and grow,” Doughtie explained. “But most importantly, I get to be part of such a dynamic and dedicated team of people working to support grower success around the world.”

“When the team learned that nominations for the Seed World Next-Generation Leader award had opened, we knew Erin would be a great candidate,” said Jerome Verdier, Syngenta Global Crop Unit Head for Cucurbits. “In just under 2 years with Syngenta, Erin has demonstrated her passion and commitment to growers- from large producers to smallholders. As a strong team player, she strives to be a resource delivering value for customers and her colleagues, both in the Americas and around the world.”
