29 March 2023, Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directed the officers to complete the work of girdawari (damage inspection) and disbursement of compensation to farmers affected by rain and hailstorm in a time-bound and result-oriented manner.

Chairing a meeting to review the situation after the rain and hailstorm, the Chief Minister asked the officers to ensure that girdawari is concluded within the stipulated time. He said that loss worth every single penny should be ascertained so that aggrieved parties can be given compensation. Bhagwant Mann asked the officers to ensure that only the genuine tillers of land get the compensation so that they do not face any crisis.

The Chief Minister said before disbursement of the compensation public announcements need to be made to ensure that all the people are made aware of it. He said that any sort of callousness in this work is unwarranted and undesirable. Bhagwant Mann said that in case the loss is more than 75% then the state government will compensate the farmers with Rs. 15,000 per acre. If the loss is between 33% to 75% then the farmers will get a compensation worth Rs. 6,750 per acre. Similarly, the laborers will get 10% as compensation so that they do not face any problems.
