Mustard, gram, sunflower, and summer moong to be procured in Rabi season: CS Haryana

12 February 2024, Chandigarh: The Chief Secretary of Haryana, Sanjeev Kaushal, stated that the state government will procure mustard, gram, sunflower, and summer moong from farmers at the determined minimum support price during the Rabi Marketing Season 2024-25. Besides this, the government will also supply sunflower oil through fair-price shops in 5 districts starting from March. 

The Chief Secretary chaired a meeting of officers today to discuss the procurement process to be undertaken during the Rabi season. 

He mentioned that the government will commence the procurement of mustard at the rate of Rs. 5,650 per quintal by the last week of March. Similarly, gram will be procured from farmers at the rate of Rs. 5,440 per quintal. He informed that the procurement of summer moong will be done at the price of Rs. 8,558 per quintal from May 15 onwards. Likewise, procurement of Sunflower will take place from June 1 to June 30 at the rate of Rs. 6,760 per quintal.

It was informed during the meeting that an estimated production of 50,800 metric tons of sunflower, 14,14,710 metric tons of mustard, 26,320 metric tons of gram, and 33,600 metric tons of summer moong is expected this season. Directions were given to the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation, Food and Supplies Department, and HAFED to make preparations for initiating procurement of mustard, summer moong, gram, and sunflower in mandis. 

The Chief Secretary directed officers to ensure all necessary arrangements for the convenience of farmers during the procurement process and instructed for payment to be made within three days of procurement. He emphasized on timely lifting of grains from mandis along with adequate gunny bags. 

Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Department, Sudhir Rajpal, Additional Chief Secretary, Cooperation Department, V. Raja Sekhar Vundru, Managing Director of HAFED, J. Ganesan, and Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Mukul Kumar, along with several other senior officers, were present during the meeting.
