MoU signed for the Promotion of Organic Farming

24 June 2022, New Delhi: The ICAR-Research Complex for North-Eastern Hill Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal, Manipur signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA), Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur here today.

The Chief Guest, Mr. P. Vaiphei stated that by using the chemical fertilizer the yield of food grains has increased; but, on the other hand, a number of diseases are coming-up due to the presence of chemicals in the food that we eat. He stressed on the need for taking-up the organic farming in the State to earn better income and improve the socio-economic conditions of the farmers.

Ms. Honey Chara, Director, Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur accentuated that the MoU is an initiative for converting Manipur into an Organic State by 2025.

Mr. Pramod Choudhary, General Secretary, Bharatiya Agro-Economics Research Centre emphasized that the MoU is a landmark step for producing the chemical & toxin-free crops and vegetables which will save the soil and the future generation as well.

Mr. K. Debdutta Sharma, Mission Director, MOMA and MIDH, Government of Manipur expressed that with the support of ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre has become the leading State in the entire North-East in implementing the MOVCDNER.

Dr. Vinay Kumar Mishra, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya said that Manipur has many unique GI Crops and efforts must be made to explore the export potential of these crops in the international markets.

Dr. I. Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre underlined that the Centre has been assisting and supporting the Agri-Horti and Allied Departments of the State and make best efforts for solving the farmers’ problems.
