ICAR RC NEH Region, Mizoram Centre Kolasib organizes Kisan Mela – 2022

15 November 2022, New Delhi: The ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib organized two-day Kisan Mela-2022 during 14th and 15th November, 2022.

Mr. Zoramthanga, Chief Minister of Mizoram and Chief Guest of the event emphasised on the need for processing of agro-based products as the state is blessed with good climate and land suitable for varieties of crops and animals. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of coordination in product, transportation, processing and marketing for the state to prosper and for which the farmers need guidance from the experts.

Mr. Zoramthanga also laid the foundation stone of Type II residential quarters.

Mr. K. Lalrinliana, Minister of State for Food, CS&CA, LAD and Fisheries of Mizoram was the Guest of Honor.  In his address he encouraged the young farmers to follow technology led farming systems for improving the economic livelihood.

Dr. V.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR RC NEH Region, Umiam stated that 766 crop varieties were developed by the ICAR NEH Region. He emphasized on the need to shift from conventional farming to organic and natural farming as Mizoram is an organic state and uses only 36.8% nitrogenous fertilizers. He also exhorted on the need to conserved soil, water and biodiversity.

Dr. S. Hazarika, Principal Scientist and Nodal officer, TSP Project briefed about the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) project, its objectives, activities and achievements in the NEH region.

Four books, one technical bulletin and two leaflets were released by the dignitaries.

Input distribution viz. one turmeric grinding machine, two water pumps, one knapsack sprayer, one jalkund and 40 nos. of Vanaraja chicks were distribute among the selected TSP farmers.

The inaugural function was followed an Interface meeting of different departmental officials from ICAR and Agricultural and allied state Government officials.

In the mela Govt. organizations and self-help and farmers’ group displayed their products and technologies/innovations in 21 different stalls. About 400 farmers from different parts of Kolasib district participated in the Mela.
