Falling Cumin Prices Worrying Rajasthan Farmers

28 February 2024, New Delhi: The arrival of new cumin has started in the markets of Rajasthan. The increase in arrival volume has caused a decline in the price of cumin. It is also expected that the production of Cumin will be higher than last year. Last year, the price of cumin had gone above Rs 65 thousand per quintal.

A decline in the prices of cumin has been seen for the last few days. On February 20, the price of cumin on the commodity exchange National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) was Rs 27,215 per quintal. Today, on February 27, it touched the day’s low at Rs 25,170 per quintal. In Unjha, the main market of cumin, the wholesale price of cumin has fallen by about Rs 2,000 to about Rs 28,000 per quintal.

Why Is The Price Of Cumin Falling?

The price of cumin is falling due to the arrival of its new crop. Rahul Chauhan, commodity analyst at iGrain India, said that the arrival of new cumin in the markets is increasing. Therefore its prices are falling. According to Agmarknet, an agency that keeps data on arrival and price of commodities in the mandis, during the period from January 1 to February 25 this year, about 38 thousand tonnes of cumin arrived in the mandis, in the previous same period this figure was about 24 thousand tonnes. In this way, there has been an increase of about 58 percent in arrivals this year.
