World Food Prize Foundation Announces Senior Director of Strategic Communications

06 September 2023, US: The World Food Prize Foundation (WFPF) announced today that Nicole Barreca Prenger has rejoined its staff as Senior Director, Strategic Communications.

“Nicole’s wealth of experience in strategic communications spanning over a decade, combined with her deep-rooted understanding of the World Food Prize Foundation from her previous tenure, positions her as an invaluable addition to the team,” said Ambassador Terry Branstad, President, World Food Prize Foundation. “Her contribution is poised to not only strengthen and elevate our global efforts but to also greatly enhance my vision for the Foundation.”

As Senior Director, Strategic Communications, Ms. Prenger will work closely with Foundation President Ambassador Terry Branstad and Chief Operating Officer Mashal Husain to elevate the organization’s brand, communications and public relations and promote the mission of the WFPF to a global audience. She will lead the development and implementation of the strategic vision across all divisions, expand partner involvement and increase WFPF visibility among key stakeholder audiences.

Ms. Prenger worked for the Foundation from 2012-2022 where she served in a variety of roles focusing on the Foundation’s global brand and communications efforts all while managing the Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates global event and convention center which welcomes over 20,000 visitors annually. She was instrumental in the planning and execution of the annual Laureate Award Ceremony, Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue and Global Youth Institute for almost a decade.

The task of preserving the legacies of World Food Prize Founder Norman Borlaug and the invaluable contributions of the Ruan Family is a testament to the enduring impact of this institution on the fight against hunger, and I am committed to furthering this vital mission.”

Over the past 15 months, Ms. Prenger has worked in the agricultural startup sector, collaborating closely with CEOs to develop strategic communications plans that drive growth and cultivate a favorable brand image. She immersed herself in the scientific realm of agricultural biologicals, crop protection, data management, pollination technology and even artificial intelligence, deepening her understanding of agriculture technologies and their potential to revolutionize the industry.

Ms. Prenger graduated from Grand View University in 2012 with degrees in Graphic Journalism and Print Journalism, with a minor in Mass Communications. She received her Masters in Communication Leadership from Drake University in 2015.
