In the first two months of 2024, the export surplus value of agro-forestry-fishery products reached 2.68 billion USD, nearly 2.9 times higher than the same period in 2023.

04 March 2024, VN: The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has provided data indicating that the total export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products in the first two months of the year was estimated at 9.84 billion USD, a 50.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

In February, the export value of agro-forestry-fishery products reached 4.48 billion USD, a 21.8% increase compared to the same period last year but a 16.5% decrease compared to January 2024. Among these, the main agricultural products contributed 2.34 billion USD, a 21.6% increase from February 2023; major forestry products contributed 1.34 billion USD, a 40.3% increase; seafood contributed 620 million USD, a 1.9% increase; livestock contributed 34 million USD, a 6.2% increase; and input materials for production contributed 142 million USD, a 7.4% decrease.

The decline in the export volume of agricultural products compared to January is believed to be due to the extended Tet holiday, during which businesses temporarily halted operations. Additionally, trade activities with major partner China were disrupted at some border gates due to the Lunar New Year celebrations in both countries.

Overall, in the two-month period, all export product groups saw an increase compared to the same period in 2023, leading to a significant rise in the export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products, reaching 9.84 billion USD, nearly three times higher than the previous year.

Specifically, agricultural products contributed 5.18 billion USD, a 55.7% increase; forestry products contributed 2.9 billion USD, a 59.7% increase; seafood contributed 1.37 million USD, a 28.9% increase; livestock contributed 78 million USD, a 15.1% increase; and input materials for production contributed 309 million USD, a 13.6% increase.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, most key products achieved high export values, such as wood products with 1.68 billion USD, an increase of 59%; coffee with 1.38 billion USD, an 85% increase; vegetables and fruits with 970 million USD, a 72.8% increase; rice with 708 million USD, a 49.8% increase; cashews with 595 million USD, a 68.2% increase; and shrimp with 403 million USD, a 20.5% increase. However, the export value of tra fish alone reached only 224 million USD, a 0.7% decrease.
