Readout of the bilateral meeting with H.E. Franklin Danilo Palacios Márquez, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador

13 March 2024, Rome: FAO Director-General QU Dongyu met today with H.E. Danilo Palacios, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador, at FAO headquarters in Rome, on the sidelines of the 4th Global Conference of the World Banana Forum, taking place on 12-13 March 2024.

The Minister highlighted the importance of the agrifood system in Ecuador and the role of FAO in supporting productive innovation and inclusive rural development, agriculture digitalization and sustainable ecosystems management. The Minister also reaffirmed the commitment of Ecuador to further strengthen collaboration with FAO.

The Director-General welcomed the Minister and conveyed his appreciation for the successful organization of the FAO Regional Ministerial Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean held in Quito in 2022, as well as the strong cooperation between FAO and Ecuador, including through the Hand-in-Hand Initiative and Investment Forum.

The pair further exchanged views on the importance of enhancing production and productivity through technical support and innovations to increase value and achieve the transformation of agrifood systems.

The Director-General and the Minister agreed to continue their cooperation and reiterated their collective will to strengthen the partnership working jointly towards common objectives.
