Bilateral meeting with the Minister for Agriculture of Sri Lanka – The Honourable Mahinda Amaraweera
20 July 2023, Rome: The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a bilateral meeting with the Honourable Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister for Agriculture of Sri Lanka, on the margins of the 19th Regular Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA).
The Minister congratulated the Director-General for his re-election to a second term and thanked FAO for supporting Sri Lanka’s agriculture and rural development. He especially appreciated FAO’s emergency response to Sri Lanka’s multidimensional crisis in the past years. The Minister also reaffirmed the government’s willingness to host the 37th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific in Feb 2024.
The Director-General thanked the Minister for the ongoing support to FAO’s work and assured him of FAO’s commitment to continue assisting Sri Lanka to transform its agrifood systems to be more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable, and to producing more with less for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life for all.
The pair agree to continue to collaborate on agrifood processing, aquaculture, and dairy production, among other key areas of work.
