2023 China Agricultural Outlook Conference Held in Beijing

26 April 2023, Beijing: The 2023 China Agricultural Outlook Conference was held in Beijing on Apr. 20. Vice Minister Zhang Xingwang and Wu Kongming, President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), attended the Conference and delivered remarks. 

The Conference highlighted “strengthening agricultural monitoring and warning to ensure supply and increase farmers’ income”. The China Agricultural Outlook Report (2023-2032) was released at the Conference, projecting the production, consumption, trade, and prices of 18 major agro-products including grains in the coming decade. According to the report, China’s capacity for safeguarding the supply of agro-products will be constantly increased, a diverse food supply system will be further improved, the trade mix will be more balanced, and competitiveness in agriculture will be further sharpened.   

Several symposiums were organized during the Conference, focusing on China’s strength in agriculture, food security, agricultural S&T innovation, agricultural resources and environment, agriculture monitoring and early warning, and international agricultural trade. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the China Agricultural Outlook Conference. Thanks to efforts over the decade, an agricultural outlook system has been built in China, featuring propelling high-quality agricultural development through information monitoring and early warning.  

Chen Xiwen, Chairman of the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress, and Zhang Hecheng, Member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, delivered keynote speeches on enhancing China’s agricultural strength and establishing an agricultural outlook mechanism with Chinese characteristics, respectively. The Conference was held in a hybrid modality. More than 600 participants attended the Conference in person, representing competent agricultural departments at various levels, agriculture institutes, and agriculture-related companies. 

Yang Zhenhai, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of CAAS, presided over the opening ceremony. Supported by MARA’s Expert Committee on Early Warning and the Department of Market and Informatization, the Conference was organized by the Agricultural Information Institute of CAAS.
