Farmers Edge is pursuing UN Sustainable Development Goals from field to boardroom

11 May 2022, UN: The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) represent a universal commitment to protect the planet and ensure quality of life for all by 2030. The UN SDGs are an urgent call to action for countries to come together to end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, fuel economic growth, nurture the environment, and enhance the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere.

At Farmers Edge, we believe we all have a part to play in achieving the 17 UN SDGs. We have identified nine UN SDGs that align with our business, and we are actively taking steps to make improvements, measure our progress, and deliver sustainable results. With our unique digital infrastructure and a wide range of programs, partnerships, and initiatives, we are advancing sustainable agriculture by helping farmers grow more with less and continually seeking ways to support UN SDGs and contribute to the health of the people and the planet.

Our work directly supports the following six UN SDGs:

Goal 2 ZERO HUNGER

Our commitment: We ensure that our farmers have the technology to grow more food with fewer resources through sustainable farming practices in support of global food security.

Goal 5 GENDER EQUALITY

Our commitment: We promote gender equality across our global community and focus on creating fair and inclusive opportunities for all.

Goal 6 CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION

Our commitment: We use technology to monitor, manage, and reduce fertilizer and chemical applications at the field level to minimize runoff into local water streams and help protect watersheds.

Goal 13 CLIMATE ACTION

Our commitment: We are taking urgent climate actions to reduce global agricultural emissions by equipping farmers to implement ecologically sound farm management practices and produce verifiable, high-quality, low-carbon crops with fewer inputs.

Goal 15 LIFE ON LAND

Our commitment: We use a combination of sound agronomy and advanced technology to help conserve and restore land and soil to protect the Earth’s natural resources and habitats.

Goal 17 PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS

Our commitment: We work with global food and agricultural partners to identify a pathway to monitor, measure, and reduce Scope 3 emissions along the value chain.

Indirectly, we support the following three UN SDGs:

Goal 7 AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

Our commitment: We collaborate with industry to transform low-carbon crops into renewable hydrocarbon biofuels to increase global sustainable energy with complete traceability and transparency.

Goal 9 INDUSTRY, INNOVATION, AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Our commitment: We are fostering innovation and investing in our infrastructure to enhance connectivity across the digital agricultural ecosystem, improving the adoption of clean, climate-friendly production practices worldwide.

Goal 12 RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

Our commitment: We continue to advocate for sustainable practices that help farmers grow more food using fewer chemical inputs, resulting in long-lasting environmental benefits.

At Farmers Edge, the farmer is the hero of our story; we will continue to work towards creating solutions and technology that help them achieve more using ecologically sound and economically viable practices. We recognize the impact that agricultural technology has on achieving a number of UN SDGs collectively across the world, and we’re deeply committed to further advancing the industry through empowered disruption to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
