CropLife Europe response to SRF
30 June 2023, EU: Following questions received from SRF on commissioning a study to Wageningen University & Research, here is our full response:
“CropLife Europe has always fully supported the direction of travel of the Green Deal and Farm to Fork Strategy. Our position today is unchanged. We understand the need to diversify the farmer’s toolbox and decrease dependency on one tool to secure and protect crop yields. We also believe that enabling quicker access to agricultural innovations will support the transition to more sustainable farming methods. Our ambition is to help European farmers manage this transition. We want to provide the most extensive toolbox possible for them to choose their preferred production model, whether it is innovative pesticides, biopesticides or plant biotechnology solutions supported by digital agronomy.“
On Wageningen University & Research study:
“Back in 2020, in the absence of a cumulative impact assessment on the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity Strategy targets set by the European Commission, CropLife Europe (CLE), CropLife International and our Agri-food chain partners commissioned a study from Wageningen University and Research.
The objective of the study was to understand the impact of the proposed strategies and therefore be able to have an informed debate on policy tools that aim at transitioning towards a sustainable agriculture system in the EU.
The study looked at both the individual and cumulative effects of the pesticide, fertiliser, organic and the 10% set aside targets that are outlined in the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity Strategies.
Neither CropLife Europe nor any other financial contributor had influence on the findings.”
