19 October 2023, New Delhi: The Final Estimates of production of major crops for the year 2022-23 have been released by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The assessment of production of different crops is based on the data received from States and validated with information available from other sources.

In the current agricultural year, the conventional release of the Fourth Advance Estimate in August has been substituted with the Final Estimates, which are now published in October instead of the subsequent February. This alteration allows for the swift provision of conclusive assessments for major agricultural crops, only a few months after the conclusion of the agricultural year. Furthermore, in this agricultural year, a more precise approach has been taken by separating the Rabi season from the summer season in crop estimates. Previously, these two seasons were combined under the Rabi category. This strategic division has been implemented for specific crops such as Rice, Jowar, Bajra, Maize, Urad, Moong, Groundnut, Sunflower, and Sesamum.
