Vice Minister Wu Hongyao Attends International Conference on Food Security
11 September 2023, Uzbekistan: Minister Wu Hongyao led a Chinese delegation to the International Conference on Food Security (ICFS) held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on Sept. 7, 2023.
Vice Minister Wu stated that the Chinese Government attaches great importance to food security and always prioritizes food-related issues in governance. China has thoroughly implemented the strategy of increasing grain production through farmland conservation and technological advancement, striving to develop a resilient and sustainable food supply system. China’s grain output has remained steady at above 650 million metric tons for eight consecutive years. Hence, China has not only had firm control over its food supply but also made a remarkable contribution to global food security and sustainable agricultural development.
In tackling global challenges, Vice Minister Wu called on collective efforts and smart solutions, priority to the needs of developing countries by the international community, and assistance to developing countries in increasing food production capacity and the resilience of the food system. Vice Minister Wu highlighted the innovation in agricultural technologies, particularly in digital agriculture, green agriculture, agricultural machinery, biological breeding, and quality and safety of agricultural products. Vice Minister Wu emphasized that the world needs genuine multilateralism, and called on participating countries to foster a cooperative environment conducive to sustainable development in food and agriculture.
The ICFS was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Officials from over 40 countries and representatives from relevant international organizations attended the ICFS, including Abdulla Aripov, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Aziz Voitov, Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu.
