Trade in agro-products between Vietnam and the US will be strengthened

The two sides shared mutual respect for diplomatic relations as well as agricultural trade and wished to continue promoting trade in agriculture, forestry and fishery in the coming time.
Opening the meeting, Minister Le Minh Hoan welcomed Mr. Marc E. Knapper to Vietnam in his new role and believed that the growing cooperation relationship between Vietnam and the US would continue to be enjoyed. promote and bring more benefits to both countries, to the bilateral cooperation relationship between the two countries in general and in the field of agriculture in particular.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development always attaches great importance to cooperation with the US, with positive results achieved over the years on issues such as the Action Plan towards a harmonious and sustainable trade balance between Vietnam and Vietnam. and the United States within the framework of TIFA; combat IUU fishing and law enforcement at sea; initiatives to protect the environment and reduce emissions”, the Minister shared.
Minister Le Minh Hoan emphasized that Vietnam wants to become a country responsible for food security and the global environment. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development would like to see through the Ambassador’s interest in supporting financial and technical resources through specific initiatives and actions so that Vietnam can strengthen its capacity and successfully implement it. cooperation projects with the US in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fishery, contributing to the implementation of Vietnam’s commitments to the world.
Regarding the opening of the market for fruits and plant products, Vietnam has allowed the US to export more than 170 types of plant seeds and 06 types of fresh fruit. Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is coordinating with the US to open market procedures for pomelos, lemons, tangerines, peaches/nectarines, Japanese plums and apricots of US origin. To continue those efforts, the Minister proposed the Ambassador to help accelerate the progress and soon complete the opening of the market for Vietnam’s pomelos.
Ambassador Marc Knapper expressed, the US is proud of Vietnam’s continuous efforts to reach the 8th position among the export markets of agricultural products to the US and the US also wishes to become one of the The top partner that Vietnam chooses because he has confidence in the quality of US products in the Vietnamese market.
Along with that, Ambassador Marc Knapper was pleased with the good results achieved in removing difficulties in agricultural trade between the two countries in recent years.
Regarding the environment, the US side also highly appreciates the strong commitments of the Vietnamese Government towards net zero emissions by 2050. “This issue has a lot to do with agriculture and we will support it. Vietnam has the necessary means, including financial, professional and human support to help Vietnam respond to climate change,” said Ambassador Marc Knapper.
