Durian is expected to become a billion – dollar fruit exported to China
06 March 2023, China: After signing the Protocol between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Department of Chinese Customs on plant quarantine requirements for Vietnamese fresh durian exported to China, the first durian shipment of Vietnam has exported officially to China since mid -September 2022.
In just over the last 3 months of the year, Vietnam has exported a total of 40.8 thousand tons with a total turnover of 188 million USD to the Chinese market. Vietnam’s durian has been favored by Chinese businesses, fruit consumption agents and consumers.
At the Fruit Festival introducing Vietnamese durian organized by the Embassy Agency in Tianjin City, Northern China at the end of 2022, businesses and consumer agents highly appreciated the quality of Vietnam’s durian and said they would promote Vietnam’s durian import and consumption on supermarket channels and online sales, quickly bringing this high quality fruit to consumers in Chinese localities.
According to the notice of the Chinese General Department of Customs to the Vietnam Embassy to China recently, the Chinese authorities agreed to licenses an additional 230 establishment, including 163 durian planting gardens and 67 packaging facilities conforming the requirements of the Protocol, to conduct commercial activities and officially export durians to China.
These are the facilities that meet the requirements in the second online inspection of the Chinese customs office for Vietnamese fresh durian exporters to China, plus 113 established were licensed last year, bringing the total number of eligible durian planting gardens and durian packaging establishment to 343 .
The Chinese side has updated the list of these established Department on the official website of the General of Customs, and suggested that businesses comply with quarantine requirements for export, so as not to affect Vietnamese durian trade and transport activities to China.
