UPL Introduces Allies for Agriculture to Highlight Excellence in Food Production
04 May 2022, Pennsylvania: On farms, at food processing facilities, in warehouses and at food retailers throughout North America, inspiration and dedication abound to ensure a safe and sustainable supply of food for us all. UPL, a global leader in sustainable agriculture solutions, today announces Allies for Agriculture, an industry initiative to recognize the often-unsung heroes who are advancing and transforming agriculture to ensure food security.
From growers and crop advisors to food processors and distributors, UPL is partnering with industry to select and recognize deserving workers and leaders. Nominations are now being accepted at alliesforagriculture.com, and winners will be announced on a bimonthly basis beginning in July 2022. In addition to recognizing the contributions that each winner has made, UPL will also make a $1,000 donation on behalf of each winner to a local food bank in their community.
“The global pandemic showed us the importance of our food system and the dedicated people — from farm to retail — who work tirelessly to ensure a sustainable supply,” says Craig Brekkas, Head, UPL North America. “Through our OpenAg purpose, UPL is committed to being a catalyst for transformative change through new partnerships and innovation. We are proud to partner with other like-minded organizations to recognize the innovators who are making a difference throughout the entire food chain.”
Winners will feature those who are making a positive impact in their own way, highlighting advancements such as new, sustainable ag practices in the field; innovations in food processing; efficiency in transportation and logistics; and new processes in retail. A judging panel comprised of industry leaders from partnering organizations and UPL will select a winner every other month.
Winners’ stories will be featured on the Allies for Agriculture website, which over time will become an educational resource that showcases how the different stages of the food chain work together to ensure food security.
“As a leader in global food systems, UPL recognizes that there are many challenges faced by the food channel,” Brekkas says. “Allies for Agriculture is designed to celebrate the people who are making a difference while making a positive impact in our communities through donations to local food banks.”
